A couple died of suffocation after an AC blast caused fire in their home in Rajasthan’s Jaipur on Saturday evening.

A 65-year-old man and his wife died of suffocation after an AC blast caused fire in their home in Rajasthan’s Jaipur on Saturday evening.
The deceased, Praveen Verma, an interior designer, and his wife Renu (60), a retired bank manager, were sleeping in their room with the AC on.
A short circuit in the AC reportedly led to the fire, and before locals could help the couple, both suffocated due to the smoke.
Neighbours saw the flames and informed the fire department. Subsequently, firefighters arrived at the scene, broke the windows of the house to start the rescue operation.
Upon entering the house, they encountered thick smoke and found the couple lying unconscious near the bed. They were immediately taken to the hospital, but died.
The couple’s only son, Harshit Verma, is a doctor in Thailand where he lives with his wife. Police have informed him, and a post-mortem will be conducted once he arrives, after which the bodies will be handed over to the family.
