Gautam Gambhir took over as the head coach of the Indian cricket team after Rahul Dravid’s term ended post the 2024 T20 World Cup victory.
After the T20 World Cup 2024 win, Gautam Gambhir took over as the head coach of the Indian cricket team, replacing Rahul Dravid. Gambhir is set to commence the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka, with the new head coach planning to bring in an entirely new support team for the national side. Ex-captain of the Pakistan cricket team, Shahid Afridi, commented on Gambhir’s immense opportunity and commended him for his optimistic demeanor and straightforward attitude towards the game.
I believe this is a significant chance, and we must observe how he capitalizes on it. Afridi mentioned on Star Sports that he has watched his interviews and found him to speak positively and be very direct.
Dale Steyn, the famous fast bowler from South Africa, expressed his satisfaction with Gambhir’s appointment and stated that he admires Gambhir’s aggressive style.
I am a huge supporter of Gautam Gambhir. I admire his assertiveness. He’s one of the rare Indians I competed against who would challenge you, and I appreciate that. I believe he will bring that into the locker room with players like Virat Kohli and other senior members who may not be as involved in the game anymore. “I’m not completely certain,” Steyn informed Star Sports.
In world cricket, not only in India, we require players who are more aggressive and approach the game with more intensity. We all compete against each other in leagues and form strong friendships. I appreciate his aggression during games, yet his politeness in daily interactions. He is also knowledgeable about the streets, a highly intelligent cricket player, and possesses a sharp cricketing mind. He believes that, in that respect, he will also be excellent for them,” he further commented.
